Listening to my body : a guide to helping kids understand the connection between their sensations (what the heck are those?) and feelings so that they can get better at figuring out what they need / by Gabi Garcia ; illustrated by Ying Hui Tan. - Second edition. - 32 unnumbered pages : color illustrations ; 22 cm

Listening to My Body is an engaging and interactive picture book that introduces children to the practice of paying attention to their bodies. Through a combination of story, and simple experiential activities, it guides them through the process of noticing and naming their feelings and the physical sensations that accompany them so that they can build on their capacity to engage mindfully, self-regulate and develop a deeper sense of well-being. The main character is a young boy who describes different sensations he experiences and identifies the emotions that prompt them. When he was finally tall enough to be allowed to ride on a rollercoaster, he remembers the sensation as what his mother calls "having butterflies in your stomach, but I thought it felt more like a kitty chasing ping pong balls in there." The illustrations enhance the text, such as when the boy compares feelings to ocean waves: sometimes crashing in, sometimes rolling gently, and how we can pay attention to the waves so that they don't knock us over. This book is interactive and encourages children to decode their feelings from bodily sensations, and to identify tactics to help with overwhelming feelings. It includes a note to parents and teachers. Colour picturebook with text and activities book.
