Summary, etc. |
Penolopea lives in Capital Pea where peas are plentiful and popular. The problem is that Penolopea hates peas! So she comes up with a plan to make them disappear, only leading to a catastropea of epic portions. Eventually, Penolopea grows her own plant and tastes one perfect pea. Turns out, she likes peas after all! The whimsical illustrations and alliterative language conceal this book's aim to encourage picky eaters to be more receptive to foods they dislike. Princess Penelopea has plenty of agency, outwitting her long-suffering parents' demand that she eats her peas, including an explosive reimagining of the pea-under-the-mattress trope of the original Princess and the Pea fairytale. This book includes a guide for parents and professionals on understanding and addressing children's reluctance to eat a variety of healthy foods. Colour picturebook with short text.

Audience: Child 4 - 8 years; adult caregivers; professionals

|
