The story is in rhyming text which flows easily and complements the swirling illustrations. The reader learns that the mother has different hats for different feelings, including silly, crabby, sleepy and happy, and how these can help influence her moods. This book a sensitive and clever way of addressing the difficult topic of a child witnessing her mother's illness. It ends on a positive note. Colour picturebook with short text.
