Bryce is an eighth-grader, so about thirteen or fourteen, and struggles with conflicting feels as Paige becomes the centre of attention. We see how life changes for the family as they worry about Paige's health, while Bryce secretly feels increasingly  left out and unimportant. This book shows how he deals with the different emotions that having a sibling with cancer give rise to, and it describes well how the boy is ashamed of these feelings of jealousy while also desperately wanting his sister to recover and to protect her from insensitive looks and comments. All the usual stability of a happy home is thrown into disarray: no more home-cooked dinners, no chatting about the day's events, no one coming to watch him play sport, becoming aware of money worries. Bryce also struggles with friends' lack of understanding and the impact of illness and treatment on his sister's body and personality are depicted. Bryce and his family all begin to learn how communication is key, even when we don't know all the answers. Short novel. Audience: Child 8 - 13
