Doctor, what is cancer? /
Cassandra Gullia.
- 26 unnumbered pages : color illustrations ; 27 cm
This book explains cancer in a very simple way for young children. Ally the bunny wakes up with excitement each day and joins her friends to spend the day playing, until one day she she is uncharacteristically tired and has no appetite or energy. Doctor Maggie, a friendly spaniel, tells Ally that she has cancer, which she explains by comparing Ally to a garden of flowers which is suffering because an invasive dandelion is absorbing all the nutrition that the flowers need to thrive. Doctor Maggie then explains how chemotherapy works by likening it to spray used to eradicate weeds. This book is visually attractive for young children: each page of large text has a facing page with vivid, detailed illustrations. The book concludes with both the flowers and Ally the bunny beginning to recover. Colour picturebook with text.
