520 | _aThe premise of this book is that, through drawing, children can express their thoughts and feelings about themselves and others, helping them to cope with family change when someone is very ill. Children are prompted to draw pictures on each page in response to the prompts. For example, the first page encourages children to think about change as a natural part of life, and encourages them to draw the changes between winter and spring. This progresses to considering the changes between the reader as a baby and how they look now, and from there to thinking about the changes caused by a family member's serious illness. From that point, understanding illness and acknowledging feelings are explored. This book includes advice for adult family members, instructions for using the book, and a note for children. This book will appeal particularly to children who enjoy active participation in their reading. Activity book. Audience: Child 9 - 12 years or younger with an accompanying adult, Adult caregiver | ||
