520 _aThis practical guide combines proven cognitive-behavioural therapy methods used by child psychologists in schools with simple activities to help your child grow their self-esteem. The book is aimed at children in the age-range 7-11. Children in this age group may have quite different competencies with reading ability and so the language may be a little too advanced for your younger children. The activities help children to recalibrate feelings of inferiority, and to recognise their emotions and how to respond to them. For example, the narrator describes different behavioural responses that children can resort do when they have low self-esteem, such as avoidance, passive, attention-seeking and aggressive behaviours, and gives them suggestions on healthier ways to deal with these feelings. Daunting actions can be approached by breaking them down into step-by-step plans, such as overcoming low self-esteem that makes reading aloud in class difficult by taking small steps. The self-examination exercises are mix of short writing and drawing activities, for example, writing or drawing things that the reader is good at or likes about themselves. There is a simple introduction to mindfulness. This book also includes a guide for parents and caregivers on how to recognise if their child has low self-esteem and how to help boost it. Black and white activity book. Audience: Child 7 – 11 years, adult caregiver
