The colour palette is cheerful and young children will enjoy little details such as the ambulance in the bottom left-hand corner that progresses forward with each new page. The whole class goes to visit Pedro, who is suffering only from a broken leg: no serious illnesses are addressed. Suzy Sheep is wearing a nurse's outfit because, she says, "hospitals are very serious". This book, however, goes on to dismantle any expectations of hospitals as forbidding places: the children can draw on Pedro's plaster cast, he gets stickers and attention from the nurse, and the food is tasty. This is a light-hearted introduction to a very idealised representation of the hospital experience. Audience: Child 2 – 4 years | ||
