520 _aWhen Peppa visits Pedro Pony in hospital, he shows her what it's like - the nurses, the doctor; and of course, the food. Peppa discovers the hospital isn't so scary after all! The colour palette is cheerful and young children will enjoy little details such as the ambulance in the bottom left-hand corner that progresses forward with each new page. The whole class goes to visit Pedro, who is suffering only from a broken leg: no serious illnesses are addressed. Suzy Sheep is wearing a nurse's outfit because, she says, "hospitals are very serious". This book, however, goes on to dismantle any expectations of hospitals as forbidding places: the children can draw on Pedro's plaster cast, he gets stickers and attention from the nurse, and the food is tasty. This is a light-hearted introduction to a very idealised representation of the hospital experience. Audience: Child 2 – 4 years
